Congressman Bishop's stand came as welcome news to Riverhead Supervisor Phil Cardinale, who has issued a draft resolution he wants the Town Board to adopt that opposes the proposal by Broadwater to place a 1,200-foot-long floating LNG storage vessel in the Long Island Sound, about nine miles north of Wading River.
In the brief, Congressman Bishop and other lawmakers are asking the court to disregard language Congress added to the omnibus appropriations bill after the November elections that supports federal authority over the placement of energy facilities.

He was born in Summerville, MA on June 4, 1913 to Patrick Joseph Bishop and Anne Bishop (nee: Keough), both emigrants from Newfoundland.
The Bishops were parishioners of Holy Family Church, where James served on the parish council, as President of the Holy Name Society, and as a lector.
