Tim Buck - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Timothy (Tim) Buck (January 6, 1891-March 11, 1973) was a long-time leader of the Communist Party of Canada (known from the 1940s until the late 1950s as the Labour Progressive Party).
A machinist, Buck was born in Beccles, England and emigrated to Canada in 1910 reputedly because it was cheaper to book steamship passage to Canada than to Australia.
Buck remained General Secretary until 1964, and was an unquestioning supporter of the Soviet line throughout his tenure.

Tim Buck was General Secretary of the Communist Party of Canada from 1929 until 1962, and Chairman of the party from then until his death in 1973, thus establishing a record for longevity in office unequalled by any other Communist Party leader anywhere in the world.
Tim Buck, however, was not a man to provide anyone with his honest and frank memoirs.

Buck was widely expected to win, but despite polling a record 45, 112 votes he fell from fifth to sixth place (in a field of nine) and missed election by over 4,000 votes.
Buck’s intellectual skills were more modest: he was a "brilliant interpreter of political currents." He exhibited these skills in a series of pamphlets, including original works (such as his 1939 pamphlet on federal Finance Minister Charles Dunning’s budget, which was plainly designed to suggest mastery of bourgeois economics) and reprints of all his key speeches.
