Tim Farron is the Liberal Democrat Member of Parliament for Westmorland and Lonsdale, in Cumbria.
Tim has serious concerns about the move, and has been campaigning hard to stop services being lost from the WGH - collecting well over 26,000 signatures on petitions against the plans, and leading a march of 6,000 local residents through the streets of Kendal.
Local MP Tim Farron is backing a national campaign that aims to highlight the plight of households who are concerned about being able to heat their homes to adequate levels this winter.

"Tim Farron met with the Secretary of State for Health on 15th February 2006 together with other local MPs and urged her to take swift action to halt the health crisis in Cumbria with the imminent closure of hospital wards at Westmorland General Hospital.
Tim met with Patricia Hewitt in Parliament to ask if she would intervene to prevent the closures.
Tim stressed that this issue is not properly taken account of as rural services are commonly more expensive than in urban areas.

Tim Farron, Liberal Democrat MP for Westmoreland and Lonsdale, has stepped up his campaign for an independent review of the costing on the National Programme for IT.
Farron, who earlier last month initiated an early day motion asking for a full, independent investigation of NPfIT's finances, told Parliament that he believed the level of spending on the programme was causing local services to suffer, including the coronary care unit at the general hospital in his constituency.
Farron says he is leading calls for an independent review because some of the projections of NPfIT's costs are far and away above the local deficits suffered by trusts in his area, and to "ensure that money that could save the NHS is not wasted on an expensive computer system through bad budget management."

Lakeland radio report that ‘The committee is in the unique position of being able to provide democratic scrutiny of decisions made by the health trusts, though it can only refer decisions to the Secretary of State rather than overturn them.’
