Tim Finn (album) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Tim Finn is the self titled album by New Zealand singer/songwriter Tim Finn.
While this album is regarded as Tim's finest work by his fan base, sadly the album itself went largely unnoticed outside of Australia and New Zealand, where the 2 singles from the album did chart, but fairly poorly.
After this album, Tim and younger brother Neil decided to record a Finn Brothers album.

If the Finn brothers have been creating music equivalent to candy, Tim Finn would be making music that was both of the sweet and sour variety.
When Finn is not being cute, he's being Paul Westerberg on tracks like "Subway Dreaming" and "Party Was You." I wish I could say there was someone out there trying to be the next Tim Finn, but with Feeding the Gods, I'm afraid that's not likely to be the case.

A brief Tim Finn timeline: In 1983, he recorded 'Escapade', the first of what have been his too infrequent solo albums, each one raising the bar for his leaps into the world of Beatle-esque pop.
The connection to Froom was a preview of wonderful music to come, when in 1991, Finn moved in as a fourth member of Crowded House for the 'Woodface' album and tour.
Tim released 'Before & After' in 1993, a record Q Magazine gave four stars and described as "tuneful, pert, intelligent pop." In 1994, Neil and Tim continued their brotherly musicmaking with the homemade, highly-winning Finn.

Tentative Review by The Christopher Currie: Tim Finn - Tim Finn
In terms of the developing CH history, this is a historically significant work, seeing the Finn brothers working in collaboration in a manner which almost certainly led to Tim's brief membership in the group for their third album (and, later, his collaboration with Neil as a duo).
Tim Finn might be the perfect means of unwinding after a blistering session of assorted Magma and Faust recordings (I'm fairly certain that no other critic has used this line, btw; caveat emptor to Magma and Faust fans).
Despite a few flaws, Tim Finn generally entered his brief Crowded House period on the strength of a solid solo work.

 Tim Finn: Bio
In medieval Europe, a common pairing on the show biz circuit was that of the acrobat and troubadour-acrobat to warm up the crowds and the troubadour to break their hearts.
On his powerful new solo album Say It Is So, Tim Finn is both of these, the buoyancy of his tunes being nicely tethered by just the right amount of Celtic melancholy.
Tim is an icon in New Zealand, a legend in Australia, and has cult status throughout the Northern Hemisphere.

On his fourth solo album, Finn dabbles in dance-pop, pseudo-reggae, and folky ballads, with a different set of producers on nearly every track.

Following Split Enz's Time & Tide, Tim Finn took his first break from the band with Escapade, a collection of light pop songs, some of which dated back to the late '70s but never seemed to quite fit in the Enz format.
A flawed though fun album, Escapade managed several hits in Australasia and Europe and revealed a considerably brighter, more mainstream aspect to Finn's writing.
And while the album was successful and a satisfying diversion, it unquestionably served to derail the forward momentum of Split Enz and led to Finn's leaving the band the following year.
