Guitar Musician News :: Music Industry News :: Dennis Wilson is the Don
My impressions of Dennis at the time were of a very energetic man. He looked a little bit older, with traces of grey hair and a convincing beard.
On these shows Zimbabweans were introduced to great singers of all time especially the man Beresford Hammond of the Groove-a-little-ting fame and Mr Ernest Wilson who did We're Not Strangers/Promise Me. Hitherto, most of Zimbabwe had listened to Rub-a-Dub and with the arrival of Dennis a new fresh sound called Lovers Rock became popular.
Dennis Wilson's shows were something to look forward to and I never missed one.

Death of a Beach Boy - People Magazine 1/16/84
As friends and family mourned Wilson's death, they drew a portrait of a vastly untidy life, one forgivable in a teenager, pitiable in a middle-aged man. Athletic, wild and charming, he had the surfer's indifference to possessions, squandering millions on good times and friends.
Manson and Wilson apparently collaborated on one song (Never Learn Not to Love, on the Boys' 20/20 LP), but Dennis wised up and got the maniac out of his life some time before the grisly 1969 Tate-LaBianca murders.
Reportedly, when Dennis' brother Carl flew in from Colorado, he made plans to have Dennis buried in Inglewood Cemetery next to their father, Murray, who died in 1973.

 music (for robots)
after all the hype and some of the tracks I'd heard by Dennis Wilson here and there "A Time To Live In Dreams" specifically, it just didn't rise to the level I'd hoped for...
It might as well be a Beach Boys song, and fits in with their late-period material (some of which Dennis was writing anyway, since Brian wasn't participating).
Of course, considering that they were really boys when the band started, and that Brian was abnormally talented at such a young age, Dennis actually seems to have developed at a more normal pace.

The three sons of a part-time song plugger and occasionally abusive father, Brian, Dennis, and Carl grew up a just few miles from the ocean -- though only Dennis had any interest in surfing itself.
By that time, the Beach Boys had recorded their first two albums, a pair of 12-track collections that added a few novelty songs to the hits they were packaged around.
The Beach Boys began splintering by the end of the decade, with financial mismanagement by Mike Love's brothers Stan and Steve fostering tension between him and the Wilsons.

WFMU's Beware of the Blog: I'm A Genius, Too! The Murry Wilson Tapes
Murry Wilson (one-time manager of the Beach Boys and father of Brian, Dennis and Carl Wilson) lovingly interrupts Brian as he tries to record his classic hit song and tells Al to make Ronda sound sexy.
Murry so destroyed this recording session that The Beach Boys re-recorded the entire song several weeks later (also re-spelling the name Ronda as Rhonda), and it was that later version which became the hit single version, which was also released on the LP Summer Days (and Summer Nights).
On the tape, you can hear Brian deflating Murry (for a split second) by reminding him that Brian was deaf in one ear from one of Murry's blows to his head.

Carl Wilson is a colossus on both these albums and his 'Trader' is the high point - a great shame this was the last time he was in charge.
Dennis' 'Only With You' with Carl's sweet lead vocal is the standout song on the album.
Carl and The Passions 'So Tough' is a sweet little 8 tracker, bookended by the highlights of Brian's loopy honky-tonk 'You Need A Mess of Help to Stand Alone' and Dennis' string-drenched, emotional monster 'Cuddle Up'.
