Recorded on a 4-track on Feb. 24 and 25, 1978, these tapes were from a benefit to pay legal fees arising from the Masque closing.
Recorded live in the studio and the hyperactivity is infectious.

With a new record out on Time Bomb Recordings (distributed by BMG), I sat down with Johnny, the vocalist for Indigo Swing, and we discussed everything from the style involved with swing to their new album and touring habits.
Time Bomb has actually looked to see what we do, and developed a plan to make us successful doing what we do, rather than visualizing what we should be.
The beginning was time we spent learning and trying to find everything, and not only are you trying to get your sea legs, but you're trying to get better as a band.

I also found out at that time that the "band" was not a band at all, but a fabrication involving lies about musicianship and even the age of the members.
SS: These songs really came together between the time I joined the band earlier this year and the time we recorded in early July, so that was a relatively short amount of time to get a real stock pile of material.
With the advances in audio recording in the late 60's/early '70's people quickly moved away from the deep rich sound of Dubly because in higher quality recordings it was found that the process would leave "artifacts" that people looked at as unacceptable in a professional product.

Faithful followers, knowing that both Skaggs and Rice possessed superb country/bluegrass voices, were not surprised that these two opted to showcase vocals within the context of old and traditional material bravely executed with the starkness of mandolin and guitar only, choosing to tone down their collective capacity to solo like nobody's business.

Starting out a little slower than previous records, Spend a Night in the Box finds the band drawing on the breadth of '50s music.
Because of this, this album features more depth and a wider variety of flavors than previous records, showing yet another way the band refuses to rest on 45-year-old traditions.
Jim Heath's songwriting proves just as volatile as his musical abilities, with songs like "It Hurts Your Daddy Bad," about trampy teenage girls, "King," chronicling the irony of '50s-era misogyny, and "The Bedroom Again," a longing post-divorce weeper, finding modern day relevance, a trick in the rockabilly world as rare as naturally occurring uranium.
