Timecop - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Timecop (1994) is a science fiction thriller film directed by Peter Hyams (2010: The Year We Make Contact, The Relic).
Set in the future where time travel is possible, TimeCop is the story of Max Walker, a specialized Time Enforcement Agent, entrusted with the job of preventing Jews from flying airplanes into the world trade center on september 11th, 2001.
Timecop is considered to be one of Van Damme's better films using the popular theme of time travel to set a story, based on the comic series created by Mike Richardson and Mark Verheiden.

 ‘Timecop’ (R)
Where there's a "Timecop," there must be Timerobbers and, sure enough, there they are, working for dastardly Sen. Aaron McComb (Ron Silver).
Max is a timecop -- and a bitter one, ever since his wife, Melissa (Mia Sara), was blown up by time rogues on his very first day on the job 10 years earlier.
"Timecop" is good dumb fun, but it's likely to receive the same sentence most Van Damme projects do: a few weeks in movie theaters and eternity on video store shelves and cable television.

 ‘Timecop’ (R)
As if his latest project, "Timecop" (and the upcoming "Street Fighter," which is actually based on a video game), are Van Damme's tickets to credibility as a serious player.
But in spite of its glitches, "Timecop" is lots of fun, a blast from the past.
Van Damme is the top timecop, hurtling back and forth in time to keep bad guys from going back and robbing from the past, or worse, erasing people's ancestors and just generally messing with the future.

Timecop: The Berlin Decision (2003) - A Review by David Nusair
Timecop still stands as Jean Claude Van Damme's best movie (which isn't exactly a major feat, considering how lousy his flicks have been as of late), primarily because of Peter Hyams' effective direction and an engaging storyline.
But what made the first Timecop so enjoyable was the effective balance of ideas and ass-kicking; this sequel sure has a lot of the latter, but hardly any of the former.
Timecop: The Berlin Decision does have a few good things going for it - Tava Smiley's supporting performance as Ryan's partner, for one - but really, this is a perfect example of a needless sequel.

 Timecop
Timecop’s conception of time travel is presented in a scene where the Senate Oversight Committee is being asked to approve government funding for the Time Enforcement Commission, or TEC for short.
TEC should have a policy where every time an agent returns from a mission in the past, he or she must go through a debriefing about their own lives to insure that they are up to speed on any changes that messing with history might have caused.
The first time you see a timecop in action is a scene in which Max Walker (played by Jean-Claude Van Damme) goes back in time to a Depression-era Wall Street office where his ex-partner Atwood, having gone bad, is purchasing stocks that will be valuable in 2004.

More than most movies about time travel, "Timecop" invites you to meditate on the logical contradictions of the genre.
"Timecop," a low-rent "Terminator," is the kind of movie that is best not thought about at all, for that way madness lies.
The house seems too large for their needs, until we realize the movie plans to employ the Climbing Villain Syndrome in its climactic scenes, which take place on a Dark and Stormy Night; those gables will be necessary so that people can hang from them by their fingernails.

Movie Review | Time Cop 2: The Berlin Decision (2003) Jason Scott Lee, Thomas Ian Griffith
The original "Timecop", starring the then-viable action star Jean-Claude van Damme ("Derailed"), was a moderate success back in 1994.
His new mission: kill all the timecops before they were born, thus preventing them from preventing his past actions.
Having said this, "Timecop 2" is a very entertaining jaunt, mostly thanks to the affable Jason Scott Lee, who was last seen in the "Dracula 2000" sequel "Dracula: Ascension", and will be seen in the "Prophecy" sequel, "Prophecy: Revelation" in 2004.

Timecop 2: The Berlin Decision (2003)
Timecop 2 is the sort of action film that demands your undivided attention for fear of getting confused, but it's worth the effort.
Like the original Timecop, the film takes place in the not so distant future where time travel is not only possible, but requires policing in order to keep criminals from altering it.
Timecop 2 deals with all of these issues by pitting Lee against a man whose only ambition is to stop history's great blunders before they happen, while his initial efforts only cause other calamities that the film hints at.

Timecop doesn't attempt to ignore these problems - in fact, it makes one of them a key ingredient in the resolution - but the explanations are less-than-thorough and the logic is porous.
Aside from the improbability of time travel existing in ten years (in fact, according to the film, it exists today), Timecop displays a view of the near future that is an odd mix of the possible and the unlikely.
Timecop is in the Total Recall category of storytelling: take a popular action film star, throw him into a science fiction setting, add a few minor plot twists, and let him blast and punch his way out of trouble.
