Top Box Office Movies - Timeline
Timeline is a flashy sci-fi actioner that boasts some mighty fine credentials that other time-traveling vehicles wish they could hang their hats on.
The dialogue is remarkably simplistic and the movie resembles the prototypical high school history class that’s being taught by an overly enthusiastic bookworm substitute teacher.
But in Timeline, Walker’s believability as a skillful time traveling archeology student engineering a plan to save his revered colleague/father is almost as believable as the profitable porn industry sponsoring a scholarship for down-on-your-luck eunuchs.

Timeline effectively depicts the 14th century with striking realism-gritty, rude, and carnal.
Donner's decision to minimize the use of CGI effects was a commendable choice, and adds further to the realism.

CGI is the application of the field of computer graphics (or more specifically 3D computer graphics) to special effects.
CGI was first used in the 1973 Michael Crichton movie, Westworld.
Movie stars now perform in front of a "blue screen." A special shade of blue called "Chroma Blue" is used for this purpose (human skin does not contain this shade of blue).

 Adapting Crichton
In the movie, with steam and gizmos and rising music and things shaking, viewers will believe that several people have been transported "back" to April 7th 1357.
However, in the movie itself, it would be much more suspenseful to stay in the past, and explain how they are rescued later.
The movie, if ever made, wouldn't hit the screens until of summer of 2001 or 2002 anyway, and who knows if anyone at in that timeline will still be interested in time travel and jousting.

Although the ending has to be compromised in the movie (the original ending by Tolkien is long and winding), it is nevertheless satisfying to see the return of halcyon days, and I, for one, am saddened to see the whole series come to an end.
A lot of the movie's best qualities come from Cage's portrayal of Roy, an obsessive-compulsive agoraphobe, who is simultaneously trying to run his cons and come to grips with finding out that he has a 14-year-old daughter by his former wife.

What truly distinguishes this movie and makes it all the more miraculous is how invested the audience becomes in the characters and how enthralling the storytelling is. There’s plenty of heart and soul driving the engine of the film, making it so much more than a piece of eye candy or escapism.
This movie was greeted in May at Cannes with derision and indifference due to its alleged self-indulgence and superficiality.
