The improved effects work, for the most part, extremely well, and I have to admit that I'm honestly pleased to see these kinds of changes made to Doctor Who, having tried to introduce the program to friends but finding they only snicker at the effects, which of course means they completely miss the point.
The timescoop effect is much improved, replaced by a swirling cone, though Dicks calls it "Casper the friendly ghost" more than once.
Most of the extra footage is pointless, though a few bits are good, and the fact that the timescoop now deposits the fourth Doctor where it picked him up is more logical.

A light farce of a rich man who has a timescoop (for grabbing things from ancient days) invented so he can bring his relatives forward in time for a family reunion.
They all, of course, turn out to be rotten and nasty people -- just what the world needs more of.

"Nazi Dinosaurs!!" -- Dinosaurs drawn through time by a prototype Timescoop, they've had Nazi insignia painted on their sides or foreheads, and were released to terrorize the Allied front lines.
(The Timescoop was *supposed* to bring advanced technology from the future, but any tech brought back was fried, and any living things from the future were D.O.A., so they grabbed some big, powerful living things from the past [transit from the past didn't kill living things].)

I wasn't so keen on the new timescoop, but had it been the original I'd have probably been unimpressed with the fl triangle too.
The new timescoop is especially effective, although why the original has been included at the start of the UK VHS release where the BBC logo is timescooped is beyond me. There are even some little additions such as the Cybermen firing their weapons in battle against the Raston Warrior Robot.
It does indeed make sense for Rassilon to use the timescoop to send everyone home, so why the Master just fades away is a mystery.

Yes, it's not really necessary, and yes, it does smack of fanwank, but even so, it's rather enjoyable, and it's nice to see the other side of what happened during The Ultimate Foe with the revolution and such.
And there's the complete ignoring of the entire Virgin line it seems, as apparent in The Eight Doctors' version of the Master, the President of the Time Lords, and even Terrance Dicks' own Blood Harvest, which still had Borusa imprisoned in the Tomb of Rassilon and the Timescoop destroyed at its end.
Was Mr Dicks being clumsy or was he instructed to do such things by the BBC?
