OFF THE TELLY: Children's/Days of Future Passed
Timeslip is important because it pioneered the "time series" of the '70s and did so more ambitiously and with greater complexity than any of its successors.
More amazing still is the fact that although themes and storylines are interwoven within and between the four stories, each stands up well on its own and even dipping into an episode at random one is caught by the sense of urgency of the script, acting and direction.
Generally the lack of music in Timeslip adds to its austerity (again, parallels with "Inferno" which is probably one of the bleakest Doctor Who stories and likewise makes very little use of music).

Timeslip was a 1970s British children's science-fiction television series about the adventures of two children, Simon Randall (played by Spencer Banks) and Liz Skinner (Cheryl Burfield), who had the ability to travel through a 'time barrier' that led to different historical periods and alternate pasts and futures.
The script editor for Timeslip was Ruth Boswell, who worked on a number of series at the time including The Tomorrow People.

Timeslip is a suspenseful, mysterious, brain-puzzling British serial from 1970 suitable for kids and adults.
Told in four suites of stories, each comprised of six two-part episodes, Timeslip concerns the adventures of a pair of teenage friends, Liz (Cheryl Burfield) and Simon (Spencer Banks), who stumble across an invisible portal to the past and future at the edge of an old navy base.
"Timeslip" may have been innovative in 1970, but I'm afraid time has given it the slip, and in a big way.

 Timeslip
Arguably the most ambitiously sophisticated science fiction series in terms of writing and performances ever produced for a children’s audience, the story centred around two children, Simon Randall and Liz Skinner, who, whilst on holiday in St. Oswald, investigate the disappearance of a young girl at the ruins of a nearby naval base.
Timeslip boasted a consistently uniformly high level of performance from the entire principal cast.
With particularly engaging playing from both Cheryl Burfield and Spencer Banks in the pivotal lead roles of the time travelling children, and an absolutely spell-binding performance from seasoned veteran Denis Quilley, who was quite simply superb as five different incarnations of the ambiguously motivated Commander Traynor.

Okay, it's a little on the slow side, looks rather low-budget and the actors frequently fluff their lines, but put all of these quibbles to one side because overall, 'Timeslip' is a great piece of television drama.
I was only six-years-old when I first watched this programme but it made an indelible impression on me. Revisiting 'Timeslip' as an adult, I am struck by how ambitious the storyline is, prompting the viewer to ponder issues like the ethics of cloning, the impact of technology on society and the nature of time.
With meticulous attention to detail, attentive (if not rigid) use of scientific theory, Timeslip provides a thought-provoking and entertaining excursion into the meaning of past experiences and their bearing upon possible futures.
