The Timex Sinclair 1000 (TS1000) was the first computer produced by Timex Sinclair, a joint-venture between Timex Corporation and Sinclair Research.
The TS1000 was a slightly modified Sinclair ZX81 with an NTSC RF modulator instead of a UK PAL device and the onboard RAM doubled to two kilobytes.
It was followed by an improved version, the Timex Sinclair 1500.

Sinclair's reputation for poor quality control was due less to the existence of the bug in some machines, and more to the time it took to react once the bug had been reported.
The Sinclair ZX81 was sold in the U.S. by Sinclair itself (from its facility in Nashua, New Hampshire) and also by Timex as the Timex-Sinclair TS1000.

ZX Spectrum - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Sinclair ZX Spectrum was a home computer released in the United Kingdom in 1982 by Sinclair Research.
Sinclair licensed the Spectrum design to Timex which produced their own, largely incompatible, derivatives.
Most were copyright infringement oriented, and their function was only tape duplication, but when Sinclair Research launched the ZX Microdrive, copiers were developed to copy programs from audio tape to microdrive tapes, and later on diskettes.

Timex Heart -- Recommendations and Resources
In the 1980s, in a joint venture with British Sinclair Research, the company entered the home computer business, selling such computers as the Timex Sinclair 1000 and succeeding machines, modeled on the ZX81 and ZX Spectrum.
Timex survived its bad times of the 70s and 80s and remains in business, although it is no longer a dominant player in the industry.
Timex Corporation, best known for the production of clocks, watches, and other timepieces, attempted to enter the fledgling home computer market of the late 1970s and early 1980s with the Sinclair line.

The Timex stand was enormous, about the area of four-room flat, and it was dominated by giant pictures of the T/S 2000 and the T/S 1500.
The T/S 1500 is compatible with all of the peripherals and software available for the T/S 1000 (2K ZX81), including the 16K pack (a few POKEs and you've got a 32K computer) and the TS2040, a thermal printer developed by Timex to take the place of the silver paper machine we have in the UK.
Although the 100 or so software packs which Timex have made available in the US for the T/S 1000 and T/S 1500 are of interest (with most of the good items of software being written in Britain), the instant-load plug-in cartridges Timex are offering for the machines are really exciting.

Replacement Keyboard Membranes for the Sinclair ZX Spectrum, Sinclair QL, Sinclair ZX80 and Sinclair ZX81
As Sinclair home computers such as the ZX Spectrum, and Sinclair QL are now all over 20 years old, the main problem with keeping them running is the availability of keyboard membranes.
The Timex Sinclair 1500 was basically the Sinclair ZX81 put into a standard Sinclair ZX Spectrum case (rubber key type) for the North American market.
Unfortunately, the method of fitting the replacement to the standard rubber key Sinclair ZX Spectrum (from 1984) and the Timex Sinclair 1500 involves removing the metal face plate (or keyboard template) which surrounds the keys - often this is bent or dented as a result.

In the past year, the Sinclair 1000 has become one of the best-selling computers at the low end of the market.
Timex also said that it had developed solid-state cartridges, much like those that plug into home video game players, which contain programs for use on the new computer.

Sinclair's low cost computer designs must have caused more than a few sleepless nights around the computer industry in the early 1980s, but the truth was that their early ZX81 (known as the Timex Sinclair 1000 in the USA) had serious shortcomings that prevented it from becoming more than a novelty.

The T/S 1500 is a T/S 1000 clone that is packaged in a rubber-keyed Sinclair Spectrum-type case.
The T/S 1500 addressed two of the primary problems with the earlier Sinclair machines: the poor keyboard and the need for an external RAM expansion module (with a notoriously flaky connector) to run most commercial software.
These improvements were largely too little too late, and the T/S 1500 was much less successful than the earlier 1000.
