The genealogical research in Timisoara is one of the most difficult of all because you must search trough several distinct RC parishes [each quarter had his own parish] and the city was big even at the end of XIX Century [in 1900 the city had ~56.000 inhabitants].
In fact, lots of Timisoara's inhabitants were living in rented houses and were moving a lot [each year?] because the houses were rented only a yearly basis.

Chisinau was remarkably free of Gypsies, in fact, apart from Jews, who do not make themselves obvious, I saw few anti-social elements at all in the time I was there, although I am really only familiar with a small part of the city near the centre.
In Romania some problems are more evident: groups of solvent-sniffing Gypsies milling around Timisoara Station, Turks impersonating policemen trying to extract money from you, but there is plenty to compensate the traveller for this kind of unpleasantness, not to mention the beauty of Romanian women.
In my short stay in town, I happened to notice something in English on the front page of the local newspaper, which featured an article discussing the protests of Romanians in the US at a dinner organised in honour of President Iliescu by the Romanian American Chamber of Commerce (see attachment).

The Association "Memorial of the the Revolution of Timisoara 16-22 December 1989" was created in 1990 with the aim of honouring the memory of the victims of the Romanian Revolution.
They created a Memorial in the Heroes Cemetery (Calea Lipovei) and subsequently a series of 12 commissioned monuments to the Martyrs of the Revolution which stand in parts of the city where people were killed during the uprising.
