Our application was sponsored by Senator Timothy Bloodworth of North Carolina.
What Sen. Bloodworth wanted to prevent was a re-emergence of the "state of Franklin," an idea he had previously killed because areas of what is now western North Carolina wanted to break off along with what is now upper East Tennessee.
In a nutshell, should the state of Tennessee lose its Governor, Lt. Governor and Speaker of the House within the same 96 hour period then the statehood charter is revoked and the territory known as Tennessee falls back under control of the North Carolina legislature.
