Thompson’s four Vezina Trophies during the thirties signify his brilliance in goal, but his finest season came in 1928-29, his rookie campaign, when Thompson posted a 1.15 goals against average and twelve shutouts in the forty-four game season.
Thompson, born in Sandon, British Columbia on May 31, 1905, played organized hockey in the Calgary City Junior and Senior Hockey Leagues before earning a roster spot on the Bellevue Colts and Bellevue Bulldogs of the Alberta Junior and Senior Hockey Leagues respectively during the early twenties.
Cecil "Tiny" Thompson was elected to Hockey’s Hall of Fame in 1959.
