The racial makeup of the county is 98.11% White, 0.60% Black or African American, 0.23% Native American, 0.30% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.14% from other races, and 0.61% from two or more races.
In the county, the population is spread out with 23.70% under the age of 18, 10.60% from 18 to 24, 25.40% from 25 to 44, 24.20% from 45 to 64, and 16.00% who are 65 years of age or older.

The iron ore deposits of the coal measures and underlying formations exposed in the Blossburg gap and elsewhere in the county are of very little value, being almost entirely kidney or ball ore, neither rich enough, nor persistent enough to work.
It is wonderful to see the thin 2` conglomerate of Tioga County represented by a 2` conglomerate in the same position in the north-east corner of Susquehanna County, and occupying the place of the 2d oil sand of Venango.

Tioga is derived from an Indian word meaning "the forks of a stream." Wellsboro, the county seat, was laid out in 1806 and incorporated as a borough on March 6, 1830.
Soldiers on the Continental Army's Sullivan Expedition in 1779 saw the potential of the area, but not until the Trenton Decree in 1782 abolished Connecticut's claims and the Ft. Stanwix Treaty of 1784 (the "Last Purchase") took title away from the Indians, did many settlers arrive.
In the years 1987 to 1992, the value added to the economy by this county's manufactures increased 71 percent.

I assume the Rutland County is correct because brother Enos is said to have been born in Pultney which is similar to Poultney.
Elizabeth and David followed her sister Annis and her husband, Jesse Smith, to the area that later became Sullivan Township, Tioga County and then still later became Rutland Township, Tioga County PA. They already had a large family of small children who accompanied them.
