  Audi AllRoad Tiptronic Petition
We are a group of owners who bought the Audi allroad 2.7 quattro with the Tiptronic transmission.
A common scenario is that when a driver attempts to merge onto a main road, an intersection or freeway and anticipates smooth acceleration, nothing happens and the car is prone to being rear-ended or sandwiched.
The Audi AllRoad Tiptronic Petition to Audi Of America was created by Audi AllRoad Owners and written by Michael Karolitzky.

  Tiptronic - Wikicars
Tiptronic is a type of discrete automatic transmission developed by Porsche and used in its vehicles and those of its licensees.
A Tiptronic transmission can operate just as the common type of automatic transmission, but it also allows the driver to override the automatic mode by moving the shift lever into a second (Tiptronic) shift gate equipped with two spring-loaded positions: "upshift" and "downshift".
Tiptronic® is a registered trademark, and it is owned by German sports car maker Porsche, who licenses it for use by others such as Volkswagen,Audi and Skoda.

washingtonpost.com: Heavy Only on Its Curb Appeal
Curiously, the Cayenne Tiptronic shares the platform -- the basic understructure -- of the Volkswagen Touareg, which has a curb weight of 5,086 pounds and has been placed on the city's list of SUVs subject to higher taxes, according to news reports in The Washington Post and other journals.
Detractors may look at the Cayenne Tiptronic as a tank that barely squeaks by the higher SUV taxes being imposed by the District and under consideration by other jurisdictions nationwide.
That means the Cayenne Tiptronic is cleaner than many sedans, minivans and station wagons, none of which is subject to higher taxes under the District's new rules.

Audi Worldwide > Glossary > Engine & Driveline > tiptronic
The tiptronic, which is available with five or six speeds, has all the advantages and technical features (Dynamic Shift Program (DSP), key lock, shift lock) of the automatic transmission.
tiptronic allows the driver to override the automatic mode by moving the lever into a second (tiptronic) shift gate and permits, for example, downshifting on winding mountain roads to increase the braking effect of the engine or for a particularly sporty driving style.
The six-speed tiptronic has wider transmission spacing, thus reducing fuel consumption and the noise level and increasing ride comfort.

Tiptronic 2.0: Porsche Working on 7-Speed Double-Clutch Gearbox
ZUFFENHAUSEN, Germany — A series of patent applications filed by Porsche hints the German carmaker is planning to replace its existing 5-speed Tiptronic gearbox with a new 7-speed double-clutch gearbox in the Boxster, Cayman and 911.
It was originally intended to be launched on the recently introduced 911 Turbo, but delays in the development of the new gearbox now mean it is unlikely to appear until the face-lifted version of the current 997-series 911 is unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show next year.
The existing 5-speed Tiptronic is expected to be dropped, since the new gearbox will have both manual and automatic shift modes.

Once I pulled the console and removed the old shifter, I discovered that the shifter assembly wire connector and wire colors are different on the 97 non tiptronic shifter and the 98 tiptronic shifter.
I decided to determine which wires are needed to connect the 97 electrical connector to the 98 tiptronic wires.
Note that the three tiptronic wires are not connected at this time, they will be connected to the RJ-45 cable later.

2007 Porsche 911 Turbo Tiptronic - Short Take Road Tests - Car and Driver November 2006
But that early deficit is overcome by the Tiptronic's smooth and quick wide-open-throttle upshifts which keep the turbos spooled up, unlike what happens when you lift to shift in the manual.
By 60 mph, that lost time is made up and the Tiptronic matches the manual car's 3.4-second blast.
From there, it continues to gain ground and edges out the manual in the quarter-mile by a scant 0.1 second—11.6 seconds at 122 mph versus 11.7 at 121—and it stays ahead the rest of the way, hitting 160 mph in 22.1 seconds versus 23.8.
