The Fine Art of Home Tire Changing
Tubeless tire beads are naturally very tight, and if you haven’t changed one before you’ll find that no amount of foot stomping, or levering with your tire irons, will do the job of breaking their grip on the rim.
Tires that can be mounted on either front or rear wheels are mounted in the opposite direction of rear rotation when fitted to a front wheel, so pay attention to the lettering under the arrows.
Although these tires don’t require a vise to break the beads, their beads are often narrow, so there can be less tire to flex to work over the lip of the rim.

Owls Head Transportation Museum - Exhibitions
Iron tires were introduced later, and proved to create a more durable protective surface for the wheel.
The first iron tires were pieced together iron strips laid end to end and nailed or riveted to the wheel.
Punctures, the tire coming off the wheel, and the tube being pinched accounted for the majority of blow-outs, which required that the tire be removed from the wheel, and a spare placed on the wheel.

There are two beads per tire, one on either side, and to get to the inner tube you'll need to detach one of them from the rim and reach underneath it.
At this point, a tire iron may fall out, as you've leveraged a significant section of the tire bead off the rim.
If a tire iron hasn't fallen out, just use one of the outside irons to continue peeling the tire bead away from the rim in a kind of skimming motion with the curved end leveraged underneath the bead.

If the tire is a tight-fitting road tire, the second tire iron will have to be farther away from the first than when fixing a looser- fitting mountain bike tire.
Stuff the tube into the tire all the way around, then insert the tire bead into the rim at the valve stem and continue along the rim in both directions until the bead is one-half to two-thirds on the rim.
Examine the tire bead all the way around the wheel to be sure the tube is totally inside the tire and not caught between the bead and the rim.

One or two tire irons are usually enough to get all but the most recalcitrant tire beads over the rim, but in extreme cases you may need three.
Since most newer tire levers are made of plastic, the term "tire iron" is a bit anachronistic.
Tire savers usually attach to the brake center bolt, and are commonly made from recycled spokes.

 Tube Tire Changing
Using a tire iron and a rim protector, and starting reasonably far away from the rim lock, insert the tire iron into the gap between the bead and the rim.
Give both sides of the tire a close inspection to make sure that the tube isn't pinched and that both beads are where they should be, and ready to be locked down by the rim lock.
Balancing a tube tire is exactly like balancing a tubeless tire, but rim locks may throw off the balance a fair amount, so prepare to add a bunch of weight.

Sport Rider Hands On-Mount and balance your motorcycle tires
On the opposite side, place a tire iron about three to four inches in front of the bead mounting point and work the tire bead over the edge of the rim, one stop at a time.
Deflating the tire after it was just beaded and then reinflating it allows it to stretch on the wheel evenly, and results in a rounder tire.
In conjunction with your tire irons, rim savers may be used to protect the edges of the rim from tire-iron gouging.

Using the pipe on the threaded rod as a fulcrum and pushing down on the opposite side of the tire to keep that part in the well, pull horizontally on the tire iron to slide its head circumferentially around the wheel, progressively dragging the remaining bead off the rim until all of it comes off.
If the tire has a balance mark on it (typically a yellow paint mark on the side of the tire), align it with the valve stem or hole.
Insert two tire irons (and rim protectors!) between the rim and the unmounted section of bead twelve to fifteen inches apart.

 Motorcycle Tire Changing
Use the hooked tip of the tire iron to grab the bead and lever it over the rim of the wheel, using the rim-protector-covered rim as the fulcrum.
You shouldn't have too much trouble getting the tire to this point (though sometimes it helps to have two people.) Since you did such a good job of soaping up the lower bead, you should mostly be able to push that side down over the top of the rim.
Tire repair failures that are merely inconvenient on a car tire ("oh, look, it's flat again") can cause severe and fatal accidents on motorcycles ("oh, look, he's dead.") Put the flat tire in the space where the spare tire was and put the jack and tire iron back in the car.
Most compact spare tires are smaller than regular tires (they look dinky and people commonly refer to them as "rubber doughnuts"), so it is possible that the flat tire won't fit in the spare tire well.
