Titanic oxide separates out as a white hydrate, which, however, is generally contaminated with ferric hydrate and often with tin oxide.
This salt is decomposed by -water with the formation of a solution of alkali free of titanium, and a residue of an acid titanate, which is insoluble in water but soluble in cold aqueous mineral acids.
Acid solutions of titanates are not precipitated by sulphuretted hydrogen; but ammonium sulphide acts on them as if it were ammonia, the sulphuretted hydrogen being liberated.

A titanate compound obtained by reacting a titanic acid ester with an aromatic acid which is included within the polycondensation catalysts of the present invention is preferably used as the ester-exchange catalyst.
The polycondensation catalyst which is used in the present invention is a preformed titanate compound obtained by reacting a titanic acid ester expressed by the formula Ti(OR).sub.4, where R is an alkyl group having from 1 to 5 carbon atoms, with an aromatic tricarboxylic acid having the capacity to form an anhydride.

The titanic, though to be to bee fastest ship afloat and almost unsinkable, was on her maiden voyage and carried any notables, among the 2, 200 persons aboard.
In the case of the Titanic disaster, the causes for the sinking indicate that shipbuilding technology was far more advanced than the understanding which engineers had, of the materials they were using to build the ships.
My recommendation to what as happened to the titanic, is that I think that this disaster could have been prevented by sealing watertight compartmenting schemes, both to reduce the likelihood of a ship's sinking, and to keep the ship on an even keel if watertight compartments filled.

Titan's atmosphere is about "95% nitrogen, 5% methane with traces of other hydrocarbons, hydrogen cyanide (HCN) and other cyano- compounds," said Dr. Robert Minard, Senior Lecturer in Chemistry at Penn State University.
This analytical method provides strong evidence that HCN chemistry is an important aspect of Titan's atmosphere, and that HCN polymer is a major component of the orange colored haze.

Method of fixing toner image - Patent 4579802
When the polyvalent carboxylic acid is a divalent carboxylic acid (dicarboxylic acid), for example, a polyvalent carboxylic acid having a molecular weight greater than that of the carboxylic acid portion of the polyester resin to be subjected to the substitution reaction is selected.
In this embodiment, since the polyvalent carboxylic acid oozes out from the internal liquid supporting layer to the outer circumferential surface of the cleaning roller 4, the elasticity of the toner collected on the outer circumferential surface or the toner material deposited thereon is increased at the time of fusing.
The proportion of the carrier liquid such as silicone oil to the polyvalent carboxylic acid varies depending upon the kind of the binder resin of the toner, but it is selected from the range of 1:99 to 99:1 and is generally from 95 to 50:5 to 50.

 Protein Folding
Since form follows function, a threshold issue is to determine the shapes of proteins, whose constituent chains of amino acids owe their sequence to their genetic encoding but their functionality to the three-dimensional structures they assume through a process of folding.
Efforts to develop a new technique based on the growing power of computing technology and advances in modeling had been frustrated until a group of researchers, led by Carlos Simmerling, a member of the Department of Chemistry and the Center for Structural Biology, achieved the critical initial step toward this grail.
Even though the protein was relatively small, originally isolated as a fragment of a larger protein, the researchers had to build their own supercomputer with hundreds of PCs, and run a long and complicated computer program that they wrote to simulate the physics of the molecules, in order to achieve their successful results.

General Chemistry Online: FAQ: Redox reactions: Why did the metal objects in the Titanic corrode very slowly?
According to Brian Todd, a consultant for the Nickel Development Institute, "Seawater, although corrosive, does not normally cause rapid catastrophic failures.
The rate of corrosion would be even slower in the deep ocean, because dissolved oxygen concentration is lower (oxygen and water work together to corrode iron) and because the water is very cold.
The coldness of the water not only slows down the rate of the corrosion reactions directly, but also slows biological activities that can contribute to corrosion.
