Topic: Tithe War

  Tithe Summary
The tithe became the means of livelihood for the Levites during the middle and later periods of the monarchy.
Tithes were local religious tax-like payments paid in Ireland by members of other faiths as well as its own adherents to maintain and fund the established state church, the Anglican Church of Ireland, to which only a small minority of the population belonged.
The collection of tithes was violently resisted in the period 1831-36, known as the Tithe War.

The Tithe War in Ireland (1831-36) refers to a series of periodic skirmishes and violent incidents connected to resistance to the obligation of Irish Catholics to pay tithes for the upkeep of the Protestant Anglican Clergy.
The first clash of the Tithe war took place on 3 March 1831 in Graiguenamanagh, county Kilkenny when a force of 120 armed police forcibly took possession of cattle belonging to a Catholic priest, in lieu of Tithes.
The “war” came to a head in 1835 with the Rathcormack massacre, County Cork, when military and police killed 17 and wounded some 30 more in an attempt to collect a tithe of 40 shillings from a widow.

The full tithe was given to the tribe of Levi, first, in exchange for his loss of land inheritance in Israel and, second, because of his servant service to his brothers in the Levitical house of Aaron who alone served as priests.
Since pagan dust defiled, the original tithe consisted solely of the increase of land produce from God’s sanctified land of Israel and from the increase of animals herded on the land of Israel.
And concerning the tithe of the herd, or of the flock, even of whatsoever passes under the rod, the tenth shall be holy to the LORD.

tithes due to the Established Church, the Church of Ireland, which had hitherto been payable in kind - in produce grown - should now be paid in money.
Not surprisingly, tithes were fiercely resented by those who were not members of the Church of Ireland, and all the more because the tax was not payable on all land and this produced spectacular inequalities.
In Munster, for instance, tithes were payable on potato patches but not on grassland, with the result that the poorest had to pay most.

Their position teaches that, since tithing, like marriage and the remainder of the "moral" law actually preceded the Law, then they are "eternal principles" which were not invalidated when the Mosaic Law was replaced by the New Covenant at Calvary.
Evidently, the Arab war custom specified that ten percent of the spoils of war be given to the local priest-king, while the ninety percent belonged to the victor.
Also, while it is noteworthy that the priests received a "tithe," or one tenth as much as the Levites received (1/1000th is 10% of 1/100th), the Arab custom of a ten percent spoil-tax-tithe from Genesis 14 is greatly reduced to only one percent in the Mosaic Law.

So with the average American "tithing" 30-35% of their income to the Government for functions that the church no longer handles and "tithing" 10% to the temple PLUS offerings, Americans are expected to live off of about 50% of their income according to most mandated tithing teachers.
Mandated tithing teachers make it sound like you aren't "putting God first" if you consider your vows before tithing yet those same teachers will tell a business that is "right" to pay their vows [bills and expenses] first and tithe on the profits.
