The Titleholders itself didn't offer prize money until 1948, when a prize fund of $600 was introduced, with half of that going to the professional placing highest in the event.
The tournament was discontinued after 1966, but was revived for one year in 1972, when it was played at Southern Pines, North Carolina.
All of these staging are now recognised as major championships by the LPGA, even though the organisation wasn't founded until 1950.

Votaw says the LPGA contacted the Titleholders Association during the planning stages of the new tournament but shared the feeling early that it would be a stretch to recreate the Titleholders out of an event with no history.
Titleholders Association president Bill Bottomley agrees that a resurrected Titleholders championship would have "to be in the right place and have some longevity" to earn the Titleholders distinction.
Eventually, the new Augusta event may move from September to late spring as early as 2002, although Votaw says he won't schedule it "too close to the Masters." A date change would give the LPGA three consecutive tournaments in the Southeast.
