Tito Lutwa Okello (1914 - June 3, 1996) was a commander in the joint Tanzania and Uganda forces that removed Idi Amin in 1979, and Commander of Uganda army -(UNLA) - from 1980 to 1985.
In 1985, together with Lt Gen Bazilio Olara Okello, he staged the coup that ousted president Obote, becoming the leader of Uganda.
His son Henry Oryem Okello is the current Minister of State for Education and Sport.

Okello and his soldiers fled northward to their ethnic base in Acholi.

After the ouster of Okello and Okello in January 1986, Museveni formed what he called "broad-based government embracing all the Parties." It was a lie to cover a most virulent campaign to destroy the UPC and in the process massacre millions of Ugandans.

When the NRA overthrew the Okello Government, FEDEMU joined the Museveni forces and was integrated as a unit into the NRA, which from that moment assumed responsibility for its conduct.
General Tito Okello returned from exile and pronounced himself impatient with the continuing rebellion, reportedly describing it as "useless and just killing our own people." The Iteso insurgency in Soroti and Kumi had ended in a peace agreement achieved through the efforts of the Teso Commission.
