Jovellar is a municipality in Albay province, Philippines.
It is bounded by Lagonoy Gulf and the province of Camarines Sur in the northwest, the Pacific Ocean in the east, the Province of Sorsogon in the south, and the Burias Pass in the southeast.
Albay is a major supplier of geothermal energy to the Luzon Grid with its Tiwi Geothermal Plant in Tiwi, Albay with an energy generating capacity of 330 megawatts and the Bacon-Manito (BacMan) Geothermal Plant at the boundaries of Manito, Albay and Bacon, Sorsogon with an energy generating capacity of 210 megawatts.

Originally named "Tigbi" by the Spanish Franciscan friars in 1658, Tiwi is a gem of a town, which was once a barrio of Malinao, Albay before it formally became a town in 1696.
In its early stages, Tiwi had some 1,105 houses, a parish church, a community-funded primary school and a cemetery outside the town proper.
Built in 1829, the existing Tiwi parish church under the patronage of St. Lawrence stands today as the center of pilgrimage along with the Joraon parish church which houses the Nuestra Señora de Salvacion.

TIWI, Albay -- National Power Corp. (Napocor) started Wednesday the rehabilitation of its Tiwi Geothermal Power Plant complex in this town to restore its full electricity generation capacity.
The project is expected to bring millions of pesos to this town, provide economic and livelihood assistance to residents and support to the projects of various local organizations.
When it was still operating at full capacity, the Tiwi plant contributed four million pesos to this municipality in monthly royalty tax.

The comings and goings of energy officials and their United States counterparts since the early exploration of Tiwi, Albay's geothermal resources some 30 years ago had become routine and commonplace.
However, a hydrothermal eruption occurred at the Naglagbong aqua pool sometime the 1980s that caused a vigorous venting of steam and boiling water that lifted the capping formations that were vital in keeping a lid on the boiling fluid and in maintaining its contact to the heat source.
A fitting tribute to the people of Tiwi, the turnover coincided with the 30th year of geothermal development in this town at the southeastern tip of Albay.

TIWI, Albay -- The unexpected demise of the Naglagbong Park (Nag Park) in Tiwi town, Albay province, sometime in the 1980s brought sadness to most people in the province, who believed they had seen the last of their town's tourist landmarks.
In collaboration with the local government, Napocor and PGI harnessed what was left of the extant natural environment and constructed additional facilities in the park.
The Nag Park also recreates for Tiwi a springboard for a broad range of eco-educational tourism activities, such as trekking, mountaineering, snorkeling and on-site learning of natural forces.

(PGI), in partnership with the municipality of Tiwi in Albay, will launch the Naglabong Geothermal People's Park, or "Nag Park" tomorrow, Friday.
The groundbreaking ceremony will be attended by local government officials led by Albay Gov. Al Francis Bichara, Tiwi Mayor Pat Gutierrez; NPC officials led by vice president Antonio Corpuz and plant manager Reynaldo Santiago; PGI officials headed by Pye, vice president for commercial affairs Luli Heras-de Leon and Tiwi asset manager Jens Pedersen.
With an investment of $475 million in the Tiwi and Mak-Ban geothermal fields, PGI has partnered with NPC in delivering 15 percent of the power requirements in Luzon.

Official documents show that Tiwi and Makban will need P806.12 million and P699.4 million, respectively to fund the additional rehabilitation works which will include replacement and/or repair of equipment and materials.
Due to wear and tear, the Tiwi plant is no longer generating electricity as per its installed capacity.
