They're Toad the Wet Sprocket, and they'll be playing at The World Music Theatre this Sunday, August 3, as part of the H.O.R.D.E. Fest (which also includes Neil Young, Morphine, Ben Folds Five and others).
Toad is on the road—after more than a year and a half absence—in support of Coil, their fifth regular studio album released in May. The band actually has a sixth CD on the shelves as well — 1996's In Light Syrup, a collection of rarities.
Toad has a history of recording in the most cost effective way possible (they recorded their first album for hundreds — not the usual tens of thousands — of dollars) so it's not surprising that they eventually built their own facility.

It is a '"best of the worst" in a sense but Toad's "worst" is just as good as the some of what is considered the "best" out there now...
This was Toad's breakthrough album and was the height of their success.

I had the opportunity to see Toad the Wet Sprocket live in 1988 in a small club right here in Ithaca, but I'd never heard their music (much less heard of them), so I passed it up.
I first heard "Toad the Wet Sprocket" in the soundtrack for the movie "Empire Records," and was curious enough to check out "Fear." I was far from disappointed in what I found in this CD -- the excellent songs and great musical handling are definitely recommended.
It's saddening that "Toad the Wet Sprocket" has since broken up, because "Fear" (and presumably their other albums too) is a collection of amazing music that those who appreciate good music.

It's a shame they broke up recording the next album, but then again, maybe it's best to stop when you're at the top, and this is the very top of their output.
Edge, charisma, and one hundred percent pure Toad the Wet Sprocket is what Coil offers.
Toad still remains my favorite band even though they are disbanded because they write such great material- their songs are so singable and infectious.
