Toden Arakawa Line - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Arakawa Line is the sole survivor of Tokyo's once-extensive Tokyo Toden streetcar system.
The Toden Arakawa Line operates between the terminals at Minowabashi Station and Waseda Station.
The Toden Arakawa Line operates in northern and eastern Tokyo, in areas that tourists frequently do not see; for that reason alone, the quick trip is highly worthwhile.

 Toden Arakawa Line
The Toden Arakawa Line was opened by Oji Electric Rail Limited in August, 1911.
The locals living along the Arakawa Line strongly requested to keep their operation of the two eco-friendly routes - the route number 27 between Minowabashi and Oji station and the route number 32 between Arakawa Garage and Waseda - and they decided to keep their lines in business.
These two routes were integrated and the Toden Arakawa Line was born on 1st October, 1974.

And unlike typically large and gaudy Tokyo housing, that which lies in proximity of the Arakawa track goes from predominately individual traditional darkened-wood constructed homes with fish scale-patterned shingles to small modern 2-story gray box homes with fl trim and imitation tiling.

Not that Shinkansen are really comparable to planes; they may be roughly as fast when you factor in airport security, waiting times to check-in and board, and travel to outlying fields (Shinkansen stations are located in city centers, connected to local transit networks), but they're roomier and smoother, more comfortable.
