tohorot - Article and Reference from OnPedia.com
Tohorot: ("Purities"); deals with miscellaneous laws of purity, especially the actual mechanics of contracting impurity and the laws of the impurity of food.
The next stage is lesser impurities (Tohorot) and their method of purification which is immersion (Mikvaot).
This is because most of the other laws of purity do not apply when the Temple is not in existence.

Tohorot ("The Order of Purities") is the sixth order of the Mishnah (also the Tosefta and Talmud).
There is no Talmud Yerushalmi (Jerusalem Talmud) on any of Seder Tohorot.

 Thinking About War
The Israeli scholar Yeshayahu Leibowitz argues that war "belongs to the level of the collective filth of human existence." Accordingly, he draws an analogy from Judaism's attitude toward the problems of the filth of individual human existence.
The various tractates of Tohorot deal with such matters as amniotic fluid and umbilical cords; the blood of childbirth and the blood of menstruation; diseases, discharges, and the impurity of the dead body.
To be sure, there are higher levels in life than this, but the one beginning with the umbilical cord and ending with the corpse is one which we cannot avoid.

the Mishnah's order "Tohorot" is not included in the Talmud.
Most of the laws found there could not be observed following the destruction of the Second Temple in the year 70 C.E. The single exception is the tractate "Niddah" which discusses the impurity of menstruating women.

Since I am constantly referring to "ritual purity" when I write about the Beit HaMikdash, I have been asked to address this subject, perhaps the most difficult and complicated in all Torah.
Please bear in mind that there are twelve Masechtot (tractates) in Seder Tohorot, the section of the Mishna and the parallel Tosefta which deal with these laws.
(Tohorot literally means "purities" but in this case it is a euphemism for Tum'ot - "impurities".

In the present context, however, they reflect the fact that they are commentaries on the first and last order of the Mishnah.
These two commentaries cover the tractates Zera'im and Tohorot for which there is not Babylonian Talmud (and hence no commentary by Rashi), and which were rarely studied in the standard curriculum.
The author provides short, clear interpretations and observations on the Mishnah text designed to make these tractates accessible to a broader audience.

Today there are many mitsvot which we cannot perform since there is no Temple or that are simply no longer performed.
For example, almost all of the laws of ritual purity have been abandoned even though the laws regarding them are the most voluminous in the Mishnah (i.e., tractate Tohorot).
So, accepting the idea that approaching the observance of 613 mitsvot is a long-term, probably unachievable goal, let's take the opposite tack and find out how to begin observing mitsvot.

FRETPLAY : Review : John Zorn Masada, Vol. 8   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-03)
Of course, it is a John Zorn piece, so a bit of the jump cut cartoon influence is present, "Halom" feels bizarrely out of place, but its quite a bit of fun as a piece, and "Ne'eman" has a skipping rhythm to the theme further accentuated by short note lengths.
For those craving the more Masadaish standard fare, there's a couple selections that fit the bill, including the propulsive "Tohorot", which rages and finds the 3/4 of the band fiercly building and threatening to come loose but keeping anchored by Cohen's bass.
Its not the best effort by the band, but its certainly one of the most unique records in the Masada catalog.

Mishnah   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-03)
Originally all oral law was designated as "mishnah" and it was accepted that the mishnah of one tanna was different from that of another.
After Judah ah-Nasi reacted and arranged his six orders of mishnah around the beginning of the sixth century AD it was initially described as "Our Mishnah." The Mishnah is divided into six sedarim, orders, Zeraim (Seeds), Mo'ed (Festivals), Nashim (Women), Nezikim (Damages), Kodashim (Holy Things), and Tohorot (Purities): the Talmuds are based on these sedarim.
Later commentators debate as to whether early mishnah collections were in writing, and it is argued that Judah ha-Nasi's Mishnah was only taught orally.

The following disagreement on the laws of purity is reported in tractate "Tohorot:"
The Sadducees say: We complain against you Pharisees that you declare an uninterrupted flow of a liquid to be clean.
