Tokugawa was originally daimyo of Mikawa (present-day Eastern part of Aichi prefecture) but was displaced to Kanto during Toyotomi's rule.
A province in the area that is today Kōchi Prefecture on Shikoku.
This was part of a broader Russo-Japanese rivalry in Northeast Asia that resulted in the Russo-Japanese War of 1904-1905.
