The Tokyo Metro Co., Ltd. (formally 東京地下鉄株式会社 Tōkyō Chikatetsu Kabushiki Kaisha, but commonly 東京メトロ Tōkyō Metoro) is one of the two operators of Tokyo's metro system.
The other metro operator in Tokyo is the Tokyo Metropolitan Bureau of Transportation, which operates the Toei system.
The Tokyo Metro is extremely punctual and has regular trains arriving less than five minutes apart most of the day and night.

The line reached Shibuya in 1939, although the segment west of Aoyama-itchome was operated by a separate company, Tokyo Rapid Railway, from 1937 to the TRTA's consolidation in 1941.

As of Thursday, the Teito Rapid Transit Authority which operates eight of 12 subway lines in the capital, has changed its name to Tokyo Metro Co., and has assigned a letter of the alphabet to each line and numbered each station in sequence.
"The purpose of this new system which came into effect as of April 1, is to enable foreign passengers to use the metro more easily," said a Tokyo Metro spokesman.
