Unlike other Yokohama Subway lines, the Minato Mirai Line was built by a consortium of Yokohama city, Kanagawa prefecture and the Tokyo Kyuko Electric Railway.
Construction of the line started in 1983, but due to the need to extensively rework Yokohama station and other difficulties it took 11 years and 260 billion yen (2.5 billion USD) to complete the line.
The line was finally opened to the public on February 1, 2004.

The first thing they did was rip out the back wall to expose the foundations of the Toyoko line tracks above.

Tokyu Toyoko-line Sakuragi-cho station has closed down today.
And Toyoko-line will be connected to Minato Mirai Subway line from February 1st and China Town station will be the end of the line.
I read many books in Toyoko-line between Shibuya and Sakuragi-cho because they were both start and end of the line and the train was less crowded compared to Yamanote-line.
