This name was given by the elves to Tol Galen because just after Beren and Lúthien had returned from the Halls of Mandos, they chose to live there; this happened in the year 469.
Beren, informed of this fact by messengers of Doriath, left Tol Galen, and along with the Green Elves of Ossiriand ambushed the dwarven army and the Silmaril was retaken by Beren who returned to Tol Galen.
After this event no more is told about or related with Tol Galen, the green island that was submersed in the seas with Beleriand after the War of Wrath.

Finrod held the Pass of Sirion, and upon the isle of Tol Sirion in the midst of the river he built a mighty watch-tower, Minas Tirith; but after Nargothrond was made he committed that fortress mostly to the keeping of Orodreth his brother.
Notice that JRRT latest idea was that Orodreth was not the brother of Finrod by rather the son of his brother.
