The Addison Airport Tunnel Project is part of the Dallas North Tollway System and extends Keller Springs Road under the Addison Airport property, the busiest general aviation airport in the State of Texas, and among the busiest in the USA.
The ground cover above the tunnel crown is 10ft at the west portal, 18ft at the east portal and 28ft under the airport runway.
Critical tunnel sections were modelled using FLAC, a finite difference code, to confirm the adequacy of the support systems, the stability of the excavations and also to predict the ground movement and stresses in the rock mass during each excavation phase.

At the time this photo was taken, the toll for the Harbor Tunnel (Interstate 895) and the Fort McHenry Tunnel (Interstate 95) was $1; the tunnel toll was 40 cents when the tunnel was first opened to traffic in 1957.
There are no such shields left south of the tunnel (although we have a photo of one that was in place as recently as 2001 in the vicinity of the truss bridge).
The toll plaza is at the south end of the tunnel, between the tunnel and the truss bridge over the railroad yards.

A rear end collision early yesterday afternoon on the northbound approach to the toll plaza of the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel set off a fire in a Chevy van and trapped a passenger who was burned to death before he could be gotten out.
Although the crash occurred on the approach to the toll plaza toll collection delays may not have been responsible for the fatal backup.
One of the two lanes of the tunnel northbound had been closed because of a disabled vehicle so traffic was unable to move normally into the tunnel and away from the toll plaza, slowing throughput.
