The first state forest to be granted Forest Park status in Northern Ireland, Tollymore Forest Park celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2005.
The forest is full of traditional growth as well as exotic surprises such as the monkey-puzzle tree, huge redwoods and unusual pines.
In 1611, the Maginnes family received the lands around Tollymore as a grant from James I. They were passed on to the Hamiltons in 1685 and then to the Roden family who sold the land to the Ministry of Agriculture in 1941.

The land was leased from the Annesley family in 1967 and became a Forest Park in 1969.

This walk lets you experience the different facets of the park, rising to the hills on the southern side, along the open hillside at the edge of the park and back along the more manicured river side path beside the Shimna.
The path follows the wall at the parks southern edge, the open views are a pleasant change coming out of the forest.

Trails: Throughout the forest there is a network of trails and single track, so as you ride along the paths, look out for entrances etc.
Park your car in the top car park and ride down to the right of the shop, Go to the right of the area sign, down the grass hill and right along the path.

A report from the International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) who after undertaking a comprehensive study visit to Northern Ireland and all the proposed sites stated that with the diverse range of sites Northern Ireland had the ability to surpass any other area of the UK and Ireland.
It is therefore sad that because Forest Service Northern Ireland has moved slowly and reluctantly during the past three years, we have once again lost the opportunity to become a market leader in an activity in the island of Ireland.

The finale - cormac and hajj still best mates from the days in tollymore forest park have now decided that flamethrowers are more effective than buckie - notice how hajji has picked up a dose of jondis in his old age !!!!
