Tides in the harbour in 1937 were estimated to be 6 ft. above normal and the tidal wave in Tolo Harbour was reported to be about 30 ft. high.
However there were no tide gauges in Tolo Harbour and the stationmaster at Sha Tin said that there was practically no difference between the two typhoons in the maximum heights reached at the Railway Station.

TOLO HIGHWAY BRIDGES, HONG KONG Peter Fraenkel & Partners were appointed by the Hong Kong Government to prepare the preliminary and detailed design and contract documentation for a 7.5 km new road between Sha Tin and Tai Po in the New Territories.
Almost the entire length of the road is located offshore on the west side of Tolo Harbour, in water up to 5 metres deep and over considerable depths of marine silts and clays.
Amongst the bridges on the Tolo Highway, one of the most attractive is the slender prestressed concrete bridge at Ma Liu Shui which carries the New Territories cycle track system over the highway.

Urban development had led to a deterioration in water quality in Tolo Harbour, causing red tide outbreaks and fish kills and, after implementation of the Water Pollution Control Ordinance, Tolo Harbour was the first Water Control Zone to be declared in 1987.
In Tolo Harbour, red tides have occurred frequently and about 50% of the annual reported red tide incidents were found in Tolo (Table 3).
In addition, studies are being undertaken in particular areas that would reduce the impact of aquaculture on the environment, such as the development of artificial pelleted feeds to replace the traditional trash fish and investigations into the possibility of open sea fish farming.

The rising sea level in Victoria Harbour is a serious cause for concern because of the increasing risk of flooding - especially during a typhoon.
The mean sea level at Tolo Harbour rose by 0.12 metre in the last 40 years, at an average rate of 3 millimetres per year.
Yeung said the observed deviation of waterline of Victoria Harbour is consistent with the change of the South China Sea in the past decade.

The structure of the model is based on a generally accepted framework with the exception of the interaction between the two layers via vertical advection and turbulent diffusion.

Lots of people are sailing in the Tolo Harbour.
I'll sail in Tolo Harbour / Ma On Shan / Sai Kung in mid Nov. Hope the weather is as good as (if not even better) today.
Pity that my DC is out of order (and I've no plan to purchase a new one right now 'cos I don't find one real good these few months), otherwise I'll bring that with me to take some beautiful pictures while I'm in the sea later on.

It is a prominent point which has a 270 degree view of Tolo Harbour to the north-east (the image is a composite of the view (205K).
The prominence is important not only due to the view out towards the harbour, but for the image that the building could present to the public passing along the Tolo Harbour Highway below.
