Toluca is an important industrial center, with a large Chrysler plant and many other factories.
Toluca is also home of a popular Mexican First Division Soccer team, the "Diablos Rojos" (Red Devils) of Toluca.

Toluca is a provincial town not too far beyond the sprawling mass of perhaps 25 million people that is Mexico City.
Toluca, while not exactly a tourist 'must see' is still well worth the effort of a visit, especially the Cosmovitral, at the Jardin Botanico, a truely beautiful work of art in glass.
I revisited Toluca and the Cosmovitral at the Jardin Botanico in 2005 and took a few more pictures of this spectacular artwork and the surrounding town.

By 1893, Toluca was a vital community with four churches, four general stores, a barber shop, butcher shop, rooming house, kindergarten and five taverns in "Old Town".
The first issue of the Toluca Star newspaper was published on Saturday, April 8, 1893 with the announcement of the first sale of lots to take place on April 18 and 19.
By 1894, Toluca had a population of 3,500 people and was incorporated as a city.

Found in 1776 in Xiquipilco within the Toluca Valley of Mexico, fragments of this meteorite were collected for many years by the local Indian population.
Many pieces were forged into agricultural implements and used by the local community.

Mauricio Ramírez Rosaldo, director del Organismo de Agua y Saneamiento de Toluca, señaló que de manera incongruente el mayor consumo del vital líquido, se registra en las casas habitación, toda vez que aún cuando las industrias asentadas en el municipio, gastan grandes cantidades de agua, cuentan con pozos y sistemas de reciclaje.
Ante este panorama, el funcionario municipal, no descartó que en poco tiempo se tenga que implementar el programa de tandeo en Toluca, el cual acabará de alguna forma con el derroche de agua, toda vez que ésta solo llegará a las casas determinados días por semana.
