Tom Arnold (academic) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Tom Arnold also known as Thomas Arnold the Younger (1823-1900) was a British literary professor.
While in Tasmania Arnold converted from Anglicanism to Roman Catholicism, a move which angered his Protestant wife sufficiently to cause her to smash the windows of the chapel during his confirmation.
For a time Arnold returned to the Church of England, and lectured at Oxford, but on the eve of being appointed Professor of Anglo-Saxon at Oxford, he converted back to Catholicism and was required to leave the post.

Hyponoetics - Essay: Propaedeutic of a Metaphysics of Thought
Metaphysics, although disdained by academic philosophy, is and remains the foundation of genuine philosophy and, eventually, of all science.
Like the painting of an artist that is open to different interpretations, - because the observer always sees in the painting what constitutes his own subjective nature - likewise the subjective language of the philosopher is understood and interpreted in different ways.
Philosophical hermeneutics studies this problem in detail and an approximation to a thinker cannot be achieved by an academic study of philosophy, but rather through an intuitive empathy of the language and the entire environment of the thinker.
