		Byers, his wife and two sons flew to New York Saturday, arriving at 8:30 A.M. They hustled to their hotel, and at 10:58, when the race for 12-year-old boys began, Tom Byers Jr.
		Tom Byers was a long-haired mile star who blinked out in the mid-Seventies, came back stronger than ever in the Eighties, and then slipped into oblivion again about a dozen years ago.
		Byers was runnerup at the '83 nationals and he ran in the inaugural IAAF World Championships at Helsinki.
