Jobim, along with contemporaries such as Carlos Lyra and Vinicius de Moraes, liberated Brazil from the bland anglophilia that had taken root in the postwar era, eradicating the attraction of tepid, safe Edmundo Ros-style pop with one gentle, samba-tinged sweep of bossa's magic wand.

The similarity almost suggests that Jobim was the real arranger on these sessions and Ogerman was merely doing the grunt work of putting the dots and stems on paper.

However Jobim hired Ogerman to do what he does best..which is to flesh out the orchestral voicings and no doubt along the way, add a few harmonic tricks of his own.
