Before he was 20, the younger Mankiewicz was the assistant Berlin correspondent for the Chicago Tribune and an English translator for the subtitles of German-made films.
Mankiewicz's first assignment at Paramount was composing subtitles for the silent versions of the studio's sound pictures.
The recipient of dozens of industry awards, Mankiewicz spent his last decade in semi-retirement, regaling TV talk show and college-lecture audiences with his erudite (and admittedly self-aggrandizing) anecdotes of the Hollywood of old.

IGN: The Stax Report Special Edition: Script Review of The Batman
Tom Mankiewicz essentially borrowed the main ideas of their Detective Comics story arc for his screen plot, with the notable exclusion of villain Hugo Strange.
Mankiewicz's draft is nowhere near as dumb or campy as Akiva Goldsman's screenplays but there were a few sequences here that were far too "comic book-y" for their own good.
Mankiewicz, on the other hand, included an absurdly protracted origin sequence (all of Act One!) where we follow the murder of Bruce's parents, their burial, and, finally, Bruce's years of training in science, martial arts, gymnastics, and finance (to explain how he was able to turn his trust fund into a mega-fortune).

We hear from actor Martin Landau, Tom and Chris Mankiewicz (sons of the director, both of whom also worked as second unit directors on the film), and publicist Jack Brodsky.
In addition, we hear from film historians, a few other tangential participants, and relatives like Mankiewicz’s wife and sons Chris and Tom - the latter of whom went on to write Bond films Live and Let Die and Diamonds Are Forever - plus the son of Rex Harrison and the daughter of producer Walter Wanger.
