Sharkey was involved in another controversial fight when he faced Corbett on November 22, 1898.
In this bout Sharkey manhandled the shifty and elusive Corbett.

Sharkey continued to play local gigs until 1920 including parades with brass bands which included funerals (although he states that this was not often), carnival, Mardi Gras and for a lot of other marching processions, most of these being under the leadership of Jack Laine.
