Tom Walkinshaw Racing, also known simply as TWR, was a racing team founded in 1976 by touring car racer Tom Walkinshaw.
TWR also modified its old Jaguar Group C tubs (which had been used by Mazda in the final years of the World Endurance Championship) for their new owner, Joest Racing, turning them into open top prototypes.
Tom Walkinshaw's company Walkinshaw Racing oversees the preparation of both the Toll HSV Dealer Team and the Holden Racing Team in the Australian V8 Supercar championship.

The driving force behind TWR is Tom Walkinshaw, a 35 year old Scot whose reputation for meticulous race preparation is matched only by his outstanding skill behind the wheel.
He formed TWR in 1975 after a period as a development race driver for Ford and, during that season raced a Ford Capri before moving on to racing BMW's.
At the end of that season TWR driver Peter Lovett had clinched the class title in the British Saloon Car Championship the overall title was won by another TWR-prepared car as it had been in 1980.

TWR began by preparing BMWs and this culminated with the BMW County Challenge in 1979 and 1980 while Walkinshaw continued to race a variety of different machinery.
Walkinshaw was elected chairman of the British Racing Drivers Club but was later ousted over a plan to establish the Silverstone Motor Group, the club paying $8m for 50% of Walkinshaw's garage businesses.

Tom Walkinshaw Racing (TWR) from the UK was contracted to carry out wind tunnel development of a radical body kit designed to improve aerodynamic efficiency of the racing Commodores.
HSV was established in October 1987, a 10 year agreement being struck between Holden and Tom Walkinshaw Racing, and their first iteration, a Group A, was produced in March 1988.
Like the proverbial “dogs balls”, the Walkinshaw inspired HSV’s were anything but subtle, prompting then HSV managing director John Crennan to state at the vehicles launch “…to some people it may be over the top, but everything on the vehicle is there for a good reason.

Walkinshaw told Reuters on Friday the bankrupt French team's assets had been bought for an undisclosed sum and that his TWR (Tom Walkinshaw Racing) group would be providing engineering expertise to the new owners.
The news provoked an angry reaction from Minardi boss Paul Stoddart, who claimed Walkinshaw was behind the purchase and threatened legal action to prevent the new owners from competing in the championship this season.

Cheever Racing planned to take the contract dispute to the courts, with a date set down for December 9.
"The contract dispute between TWR Group and Tomas Scheckter was due to be heard in English court but because of financial entanglements surrounding the Arrows Formula One team, TWR principles have decided to withdraw from the lawsuit,” Cheever said in a statement.

British racing firm TWR is to help build a Formula One circuit in Moscow after signing a £66million deal with the Russian capital's authorities.
Tom Walkinshaw Racing, which owns the Arrows F1 team, has formed a partnership with the city to construct the first F1 circuit in the country on Nagatino Island, south of The Kremlin and Red Square.
The circuit, due to be completed within two years, would meet all international racing standards and the TWR Group would have exclusive rights to work on the Moscow site, Vedomosti reported.

West Surrey Racing was founded in 1981 and over the next decade was a major force in British formula three racing, helping to launch the formula one careers of drivers including Ayrton Senna, Mika Hakkinen, Eddie Irvine and Rubens Barrichello and claiming five championships along the way.
The way was paved initially, though, when Tom Walkinshaw Racing ran the Holden Racing Team, a relationship which ended last year when TWR was in financial trouble and Holden bought the team, then sold it to its lead driver, Mark Skaife.

This recognition is starting to occur because the racing is entertaining, perhaps as much as the fact the IRL is the series of the "Indianapolis 500" and in spite of the acknowledgement that today's Indy drivers are much less famous than the NASCAR stars.
