TOM WERNER was an award-winning documentary producer, noted for his film, Shirley Chisholm: Pursuing The Dream, about the first female presidential candidate.
This philosophy in action is what landed Werner and Carsey in the Hall of Fame of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in 1996, as well as in the Broadcasting and Cable Magazine Hall of Fame.
Tom Werner is a native New Yorker, 1971 cum laude graduate in English literature of Harvard University, and father of three children.

Thomas C. "Tom" Werner (born April 12, 1950 in New Jersey and educated at The Hotchkiss School) is an American television producer and businessman.
Werner is co-owner (with John Henry) and Executive Chairman of the Boston Red Sox baseball club, for which he and Henry paid $660 million in February 2002, purchasing also Fenway Park and the New England Sports Network.
Werner also co-founded The Carsey-Werner Company with Marcy Carsey in 1980.

As one of the last major independent suppliers of network TV series, the studio lost millions of dollars developing and producing such duds as "Whoopi" and "The Tracy Morgan Show." Last month, partners Marcy Carsey and Tom Werner said the company would pare down TV production operations and dramatically scale back development of new projects.
In a phone interview last week, Werner, 55, noted that Carsey-Werner is bowing out, perhaps fittingly, just as TV comedies are going through another rough patch.
Werner declined to provide details other than to say that he's had "conversations with a couple of networks" about moving forward.
