Tombstone (film) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Tombstone is a 1993 Western movie written by Kevin Jarre and directed by George P. Cosmatos.
In fact, she was as well known as a prostitute locally as she was for acting, and had been in Tombstone quite some time with Behan, off and on, prior to Wyatt Earp's arrival, as well as having lived with a Tombstone attorney for a time.
In most other films she is punched often by him.

DVD Review: Tombstone - Vista Series
It is a film obviously done by a director who has a true love for the genre.
The film's images are generally well-presented, as sharpness and detail are good, but inconsistent; the bright, daylight scenes are quite solid, while some of the darker/dimly-lit interiors can look a tad murky.
SOUND: The original edition of "Tombstone" presented the picture in only 2.0 audio, which was certainly a dissapointment, given the fact that there's quite a bit of action that could have benefited from a full 5.1 presentation.

Wyatt Earp - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
On October 28, 1880, as Tombstone town-marshal (police chief) Fred White was trying to break up a group of late revelers shooting at the moon on Allen Street in Tombstone, he was shot in the abdomine as he attempted to confiscate the pistol of "Curly Bill" William Brocius, who was apparently one of the group.
James Earp accompanied Morgan's body, which was taken from Tombstone by wagon and sent to Colton from the freight railhead in Benson on Sunday, March 19.
There is historical evidence that, in her life with Earp, Mattie was the laudanum addict and generally impossible woman that she is portrayed to be in the film "Wyatt Earp".

Ford's film similarly retells the violent episode of the gunfight-shootout at the O.K. Corral (an actual historical event that occurred on the afternoon of October 26, 1881), the story of the duel between two families - the good one represented by the Earps and the notorious one represented by the Clanton family.

On the other hand, Doc and Wyatt were in a somewhat vulnerable position in Tombstone after the OK Corral, to a greater or lesser degree at the mercy of outlaws and corrupt officials—going on the offensive was perhaps their best defense.
In this film, Quaid's Doc remarks after Morgan Earp's death that he loved him like he was his "own little brother." Doc was indeed fond of Morgan, but he was actually a few months younger than Morgan as well, making Doc the youngest of Wyatt Earp's OK Corral foursome.

Tombstone tells the story of Wyatt Earp, his brothers and pal Doc Holiday, who all reside in the western town of Tombstone, eager to earn some quick cash.
The film uses all the necessary plot twists and character developments to drive the film at a reasonable pace, combining the small town atmosphere with big-time action and gunplay.
The film is a great exploration into the events surrounding the infamous gunfight at the OK Corral, and is dealt with admirably by both cast and Director Cosmatos.

Tombstone returns to the older idea that the Clantons and their cronies are just a pack of no-gooders greatly in need of exterminating, and that the law the Earps respect is more a hindrance than a help.
Tombstone looks great with Bill Fraker's clear-eyed camerawork, and a nice design that doesn't overdo the mud or dust trying to be original (as with the awful Wild Bill).
I'm not sure where this visually dramatic moment was supposed to fit into the film, but I suspect it came immediately before or after the restored sequence in which McMasters ventures boldly back into their camp.

Tombstone is effectively a lawless town controlled by a group of gunmen who call themselves the Cowboys.
As we get further and further from the actual period, the western becomes a more difficult film to make, at least with an authentic feel to it, because the intervening years mean we've lost the people who had direct experience with the period or at least knew others who did.
Even when they do get the details right, they sometimes just don't manage to have their film convey an atmosphere of authenticity and viewers never manage to believe that what they're seeing is other than a collection of contrived set-pieces.

Tombstone for Fireflies does not wallow in mourning, or pile up the horrors; it is a work full of sorrow and pity leavened by lyricism.

Nevertheless, TOMBSTONE worked splendidly on its own terms as an old- fashioned western, retelling Wyatt Earp (Kurt Russell) and Doc Holliday's (Val Kilmer) fight with the infamous Clanton gang that formed the basis of a handful of previous films about the O.K. Corral.
It's widely known that the original cut of TOMBSTONE ran nearly three hours (Cosmatos has himself said as much), which is why one might have expected this Special Edition package to include a much longer cut of the film, or at the least, all of the deleted scenes contained in a separate supplement.
TOMBSTONE is a superb film and a great behind-the-scenes story, one that deserves a more lavish treatment than the rather one-dimensional, PR-like package it has received here.

In the movie "Tombstone" (1993, starring Kurt Russell as Wyatt Earp) is arguably one of the greatest contemporary western films of our time and undoubtedly a classic in the western genre, by all measures.
Unfortunately, much of the research done for the film was very poorly done for a big budget movie that was intended to be an "epic" film, from the very start.
As to the question, "who cares?"...I love "Tombstone" and feel it is truly a classic American Western and I appreciate that they took the time to attempt to incorporate the game of faro into the movie for the sake of historical accuracy.
