  No. 25: Tommy Ivo
Ivo was in a striped jacket, bow tie, and straw hat.
In 1964, Ivo came home with the biggest prize from the historic tour of the United Drag Racing Team in England when he defeated Garlits for overall honors and was crowned the International Drag Racer of the Year in England by NHRA and the British Hot Rod Association.
Ivo campaigned a half dozen front-engine cars, including the ones with which he drove to runner-up honors at the 1964 Winternationals and 1965 Nationals, before switching to the rear-engine format in 1972.

Tommy Ivo brought excitement into drag racing with movie stars visiting the races, his notorious glass sided trailors adorning the pits and rodeways, and the screaming rumble from one of his fine motored creations.
Tommy Ivo is quite possibly the most important contributors to drag racing that it has ever seen, turning what was once a race here and there sport, to the touring roadshow NHRA has become today.

Tommy Ivo - Biography - Moviefone
Towheaded child actor Tommy Ivo played Cousin Arne in I Remember Mama (1948) but is perhaps better remembered for his appearances opposite Charles Starrett in Columbia's long-running "Durango Kid" Western series.
Ivo popped up in no less than six entries, often mistaking the masked avenger for a real bandit but always wanting to emulate him by the fadeout -- just like the front-row kids of the day.
Ivo was fairly busy in television in the late '40s and early '50s as well, so busy in fact that he earned the nickname "TV Tommy Ivo." When his career slowed down in the late '50s, Ivo found a new outlet for his talents -- as a professional hot rod driver.

Years later “Ivo’s T” with its unique crescent moon back window and his buddy, Norm Grabowski’s “Kookie’s T” (which had a major presence in the TV series “77 Sunset Strip”) would be considered the seminal cars that started the “Fad T” revolution in hot rodding.
Tommy put a blower on his car but secretly de-tuned it so that it would barely run, to convince Fuller he needed the second engine.
All-in-all, this is an incredible bargain (four engines for the price of one!) and a wonderful piece of drag racing history that anyone should be quite proud to add to their collection recalling the days when creativity and ingenuity were prevalent at the drag strip compared to today’s more “cookie-cutter” approach to speed.

NHRA Motorsport Museum: Tommy Ivo's four-engine Showboat
After enjoying great success in performance and crowd appeal with a twin-engine Buick in the late 1950s, "T.V. Tommy" Ivo figured that if two were good, four had to be better, so he built his now-famed four-wheel-drive Showboat dragster using four Buick powerplants.
One was the difficulty in safely shutting down the relatively overweight entry after crossing the finish line; the other was the objection of the producers of his Margie television series.
Ivo plans to build a replica of the four-engine Showboat in its original dragster form, which will also be on display at the NHRA Motorsports Museum.
