Tuberville was an assistant coach at Arkansas State University, the University of Miami, and Texas AandM University prior to being named to his first collegiate head coaching job at the University of Mississippi.
During the 2003 season, Tuberville was the subject of an attempted behind-the-scenes palace coup.

Auburn's buyout and Tuberville's penalty is $7 million for the first two years of the contract, $6 million for 2007-08, $5 million for 2009, $4 million for 2010 and $3 million for 2011.
Last season, Tuberville led Auburn to a 13-0 record, which was the most wins in school history, capped by the 16-13 Sugar Bowl win over Virginia Tech to finish the season ranked No. 2.
