 007 Lives to "Die Another Day" - Mar 12, 2002 - E! Online News
Die Another Day stars Pierce Brosnan in his fourth Bond outing after GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies and The World Is Not Enough.
And before you ask, no, we don't know how one can "die another day" if, assuming another day is tomorrow, "tomorrow never dies." Unless, of course, you only live twice.
Things we do know: The plot involves North Korean baddies; Madonna is in talks to record a soundtrack cut (but not necessarily the title song); Halle Berry is the proverbial Bond girl, and, depending on how the rest of her month shapes up, perhaps the first Best Actress Oscar-winning Bond girl.

Unlike the snafu involving the switching of songs in Tomorrow Never Dies, the theme of the Garbage song is also the title theme of Arnold's score.
The World is Not Enough: (David Arnold) After establishing himself as the future composer of the James Bond franchise with his critical and popular success for Tomorrow Never Dies, the relative newcomer in the Hollywood spotlight scores the nineteenth Bond installment, The World is Not Enough.
I had a difficult time pinpointing the reason why the Garbage song just doesn't rank with the others --at first, I thought it was because of the awkward nature of the title lyric-- but I finally came to the conclusion that the lead voice is itself inappropriate for a Bond film.

The World Is Not Enough Soundtrack Reviews @ Movie Music . com
The opening song by Garbage is okay, falling somewhere between Sheryl Crowe's "Tomorrow Never Dies" and Arnold's own "Surrender" (from the same film) in terms of tone and quality.
Overall, while the score has many fine elements, it feels over-done and can't help but find myself preferring the warmer, slightly less over-the-top sounds of Tomorrow Never Dies (in which Arnold made much bigger use of the melody from the theme song), particularly in the more recent expanded release.
Nevertheless, there is enough interest here to make it worth investigating.

Her techno/dance effort is far from the quality of songs produced by Carly Simon ('Nobody Does It Better'), Shirley Bassey ('Goldfinger', 'Diamonds Are Forever') and even K.D.Lang ('Surrender', Tomorrow Never Dies).
The song's melody (if there is one) is not used in the underscore but this is not Arnold's fault as there is little he could do with such a song.
Ironically, the songs effect in conjunction with Daniel Kleinman's opening titles is strangely haunting, however the song must stand on its own as piece of music divorced from the film and spectacularly fails to do so.

Britmovie - The World Is Not Enough 1999
Continuing the revival of the franchise established by the confident GoldenEye and slightly threatened by the somewhat wobbly Tomorrow Never Dies, this checks off all the boxes on the form with something like panache, if not actual inspiration.
And if you're not feeling good enough yet, the new Bond film features lovely, lovable old John Cleese as a bumbling assistant to Q. So there's no need to be frightened, you know where you are with James Bond.
Otherwise, the star has settled into the role, delivering precisely the required mix of unflappability, arrogance, heroism and smugness while not looking too uncomfortable in the clinches or a tuxedo.

The World is Not Enough - DVD review
Composer David Arnold develops the deliberately traditional style of his action music in Tomorrow Never Dies, adding punchy layers of synthesised dance rhythms, a similar but more intricate approach to that taken by John Barry in The Living Daylights.
The special edition DVD is absolutely packed with features, including two audio commentaries, three documentaries, two trailers and the video to Garbage's title song (one of the better examples of recent years).
On the subject of the title, The World is Not Enough is about as relevant to the plot as A View to a Kill's title was back in 1985, justified only by a single name check in the dialogue!

Movie Review -- The World is Not Enough
The World is Not Enough is certainly not the best Bond film ever made (indeed Brosnan's last outing in Tomorrow Never Dies is slightly better), but it is a respectable, watchable action flick good for a Saturday afternoon matinee.
The film's opening, featuring the title song performed by the rock group Garbage, is quite good.
While The World is Not Enough may not be a groundbreaking or original entry in the action film genre, it is still 007 and still entertaining.

Other artists who submitted Tomorrow Never Dies themes included The Cardigans and Space.

The GIBSON & Baldwin Player - David Arnold forges the new Bond tradition with a Gibson ES-135
Arnold has composed the soundtracks for the last three Bond films, Tomorrow Never Dies (1997), The World Is not Enough (1999) and the current blockbuster, Die Another Day.
For his trial run, Tomorrow Never Dies,he attempted to reassure the audience that the old sound could still be cool by "building the bridges between all the great old [music] and potentially what could be great new [music]." As he continued with the next two movies, he introduced new elements, different instrumentation and electronic programming.
Arnold, a huge fan of Icelandic pop singer Bjork, contacted the eccentric artist and asked her to sing his haunting closing song, "Play Dead." She was just finishing up Debut, her first solo album after splitting with experimental band The Sugarcubes, and she readily agreed.

Stina also turned down an offer to do a song for a James Bond movie ("Tomorrow Never Dies") in 1997, and she supposedly declined to work with the infamous Chemical Brothers (or the Dust Brothers) due to their "rave attitude" (all this according to another Stina page found on the net).
The songs found on Stina`s records are all in English, though she actually does sing in her native tongue on the traditional song "Värmtlandsvisan" featured on the 2000 Freddie Wadling album "Skillingtryck and Mordballader".
Stina Nordenstam has since her first album was released back in 1991 given very few interviews, and the almost only place to find pictures of her is in the cd covers and booklets.

James Bond games - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The next Bond game, based on the film Tomorrow Never Dies, was not developed by Rare, and featured a third-person viewpoint in contrast to GoldenEye 007's first-person perspective.
Some reviewers referred to this game as 2004's James Bond film, and with Brosnan's subsequent departure from the role, the game is considered by some to be his swan song as 007.
Although James Bond is known for his use of the Walther PPK and Walther P99 pistols in the books and films, the video games often change the name of the guns to avoid possible copyright problems.

As the finale of the film, "All in a Day's Work" has the massively enjoyable major key victory cue, complete with hints of the old pompous British finales that made the older Bond films so corny and fun, as well as a very Barry-like, final string performance of the love theme.
After much fuss and delay, controversy and discussion, the rest of the missing music from the film is finally available on a commercial release from Chapter III Records (formerly Compass III) at the turn of the century.

 GoldenEye
GoldenEye strongly competes with Tomorrow Never Dies to be the weakest of the Brosnan Bond films, but thankfully fails by a small margin.
I have managed to deduce that the quality of a Bond film is often reflected by its theme song, and this is a deduction that I am sure a lot of people have come to after seeing the last few Bond films, be it theatrically or at home.
GoldenEye was the first to feature the new, more human (some would say Connery-like) Bond that got audiences back into the theatres at a time when the critics were writing the series off, thanks in no small part to a great new Bond in Pierce Brosnan and a superb M in Judi Dench.

When David Arnold took over the series with Tomorrow Never Dies, he proved that Serra's score was indeed not only inadequate, but a disgrace to the series.
Serra also fails to quote the theme of the Goldeneye theme song by Turner in his score, which is another unacceptable blunder.
The glorious tank scene, especially, was a classic missed opportunity for Serra, whose cue for the scene locked his score forever in the category of disasterous miscues.
