Ton: In January/February 2002 it was, for the people within NaN, already quite clear the company couldn't survive and would close the doors in March.
Ton: My aim still is to restrict the BF organization to the absolute minimum.
Ton: I think this topic was covered in previous replies already...So yes, I really think such a scenario is worth pursuing.

Ton Roosendaal Leaves Blender Development, Gets Offer of $2.4M from Autodesk at BlenderNation
Ton further commented that the last seven months took away all the last bit of energy that he had left and that he will spend the money on a house with a private beach on a tropical island.
This is a chance for Ton and even as i love working with Blender so much, i think he does the right decision.
Then again, the thought of Ton on his own private island, kinda like Dean Kamen, and probably having beach ladies is interesting… I could go visit him from time to time and have dance competitions.

 Blender | Linux Journal
The primary author, Ton Roosendaal, says one of his favorite hobbies is throwing extraneous code out of Blender, and it shows.
They wrote their own in-house 3-D software, ``Traces'', but Ton was not satisfied with it.
Ton Roosendaal hopes to eventually port Blender to a number of systems, but right now that isn't a priority.

 CGSociety - Elephants Dream
With ‘Elephants Dream’, Ton would like to show that it is possible to produce a film that can mix it with the large studio’s short film efforts.
During the internet’s heady early days, Roosendaal had to give up on developing the software himself, as the creditors needed more money.
Ton worked in a small animation studio where the software developer was in constant touch with the artists, building the tools that they needed and continually improving the software as the project went along.

After NeoGeo grew to be the largest business of its kind in all the Netherlands, it was bought by another company, and then Roosendaal was free to perfect Blender and share it with the community at large, with the eventual goal of releasing it as Free Software.
Roosendaal et al are conducting an Internet fundraising campaign to ransom Blender.
When I showed him the logos the company owner looked at me and asked, 'you're not Ton Roosendaal, are you?' Then he proudly showed me proud almost every product we've had in our e-shop the past years, and his 3D work on the company site.

CGTalk - Blender - great potential and bright future
Very soon after that Ton Roosendaal, a key person behind Blender, started a new effort to "set Blender free", that is, to free Blender source code under a GNU GPL license.
If Ton was still the unique owner of the IP, he wouldn't have to pay for this, cause this what it's all about.
Ton must pay, but he hasn't got the money, so the community who knows how much blender is worth it, offered to create the blender foundation which would pay for the sources.

To help make the interviews more relevant to everyone, I would like to involve the community in the interview process by asking for questions you yourself would like to ask and then compiling a list of questions for the person being interviewed.
Ton Roosendaal has kindly agreed to be the first person interviewed, and because I know he is extremely busy, I thank him for it.
There are some conditions to the interview with Ton, in that any of the usual questions that we've all seen before in other interviews won't be sent to Ton.

Blender - Animation for the Appliance Challenged
Approximately one month later, Ton Roosendaal released Blender for the Alpha, which is now allowing me to complete my dream.
In the process of doing them, I have discovered Ton uses what I call the "adventure method" of teaching, where he gives one latitude for learning.
My best advice is to try and duplicate the examples in the manual and not entirely rely on the 'step by step' procedure.

 Blender Documentation - Blender's History
After careful deliberation Ton decided that the current in-house 3D tool set for NeoGeo was too old and cumbersome to maintain and upgrade and needed to be rewritten from scratch.
As NeoGeo continued to refine and improve Blender it became apparent to Ton that Blender could be used as a tool for other artists outside of NeoGeo.
In 1998, Ton decided to found a new company called Not a Number (NaN) as a spin-off of NeoGeo to further market and develop Blender.

Ton also builds and displays (or has built and displayed) his presentations for conferences in Blender (as opposed to, say, PowerPoint).

Last night, in another display of hardcore coding brilliance, Ton Roosendaal added a feature to bf-blender CVS that we’d been discussing a bit in IRC - an ‘Outliner’ scene management tool.
I made a design proposal, from which Ton put this first working version together in the space of a couple of days.
In this initial stage, it’s mostly useful for visualising, selecting and activating different Blender data for editing, and hopefully as it develops, we’ll see more interactive functionality being implemented.
