  Weapons: Tonfa
The tonfa is derived from the handles of a millstone.
For uke (blocking) the shafts of the tonfa were used along the arms; tsuki (punching) made use of the tonfa end; while uchi (striking) used the hinging action of the tonfa in the same way as that of hiji uchi or empi uchi of the empty-hand techniques.
Although the tonfa is not a well-known weapon among martial artists themselves, it is actually by far the most often used of the Okinawan weapons.

The tonfa is a simple, flattened stick, around 15 to 20 inches long, with a handle sticking out at 90 degrees to one end.
That handle was the first use of the tonfa, as a means to rotate the heavy cylindrical stones used to grind rice into flour.
Side-handle baton techniques are largely similar to those used with traditional tonfa, except that since only one tonfa is used, the other hand is used as a guard or to reinforce blocks and strikes.

The tonfa is held firmly across the arm much in the same fashion as the bo is held when swinging across the body.
The longer tonfa is considerably more difficult to control than a shorter tonfa, but Ota Sensei says that this increases the speed and resulting power of the technique—if you have developed sufficient control to handle the longer length.
However, with prefabricated tonfa there is not enough wood, nor does the shape conform to the forearm to control the thrust.

 Divide and Conquer - Tonfa
Known to the Chinese Kung Fu practitioners as the Tui-faa (pronounced too-fah), the Tonfa is the feudal version of the police "Billy Club." Simply a handle - a wooden rod with a hand-hold jutting ninety degrees from one end - the tonfa was a versatile weapon.
In the hands of an adept martial artist, it could be used to strike, block, and jab.
Because of the nature of the handle, the tonfa can be swung at high velocity, making its wooden surface ideal for hitting arms, legs, and other appendages.

Tonfa change makes sense -- and yeah, a +1 Defense bonus of some sort is probably about the best way to make it somewhat more attractive as a weapon.
