		“Tonight Alright” is straight-ahead rock and roll for the most part, and it seems Spiderbait have eschewed the power-pop of their previous efforts for something a little edgier and more abrasive.
		Put this down, perhaps, to the fact that the album was recorded in California under the production talents of Sylvia Massy, who has also worked with Tool, Prince and Powerman 5000 and so has something of a track record in harnessing raw musical creativity and energy into a slightly more finely-tuned and articulate package.
		And that’s just what Tonight Alright is. It’s the sound of a band that unashamedly want to rock, even if the 12 tracks do span only 36 minutes.

		How they can manage to be both repetitive and unfocused on the same album is a bit puzzling to me. The album’s closer “Picky” again adds more variety and less cohesion by playing out on an unexpected mellow groove.
		Tonight, Alright is not a terrible album, but in an ocean of mediocre rock bands starving for attention it might as well be.

		Covering 'Black Betty' was a hell of a good move for this Aussie 3-piece and apart from getting them into the Top 20 it also heralded a move towards a heavier, dirtier sound and away from the pop rock schlock that they've lately become known for.
		The best tracks are those featuring Kram's (male) vocals as Janet's tunes tend back towards the pop poop I mentioned earlier with the notable exception being the pretty swell 'Fucken Awesome'.
		Favourite tune by a long lonely NSW road is 'Alright', a moody shit kicker with 'In This City', 'Picky' and 'Take Me Back' the proof that Spiderbait can rock the house with their own stuff too.

		After having followed Spiderbait's musical evolution since their doing live gigs around Australia I have to say that this ablum, Tonight Alright, is their best.
		'Tonight Alright' is pure, stripped down power punk that will not have you comparing it to some of the lifeless punk out there today.
		The 'Black Betty' cover (blasted by most other reviewers) is not the high point, but an amusing one reminding me of the days when this song was popular amidst the other music that was trying to 'make its way in' to the masses (punk, new wave, etc).
