The Tony Award for Best Revival was presented from 1977 until 1994, when it was split up int the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical and the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Play.
If there are few enough revivals, it is possible under the current Tony rules for the "Best Revival of a Play or Musical" award to return.
The award was given to the best play, musical or non-musical, which had already appeared on Broadway in a previous production.

The Broadway revival opened May 2, 2001, at the Ford Theatre, where it was the jewel in the crown of a renewed and invigorated 42nd St. in New York City.
Warren was born in Brooklyn in 1893 and died in 1981.
Gower Champion (original direction and dances) was awarded the Tony Award for Best Choreography for "42nd Street" and also won the Drama Desk Award in the same category.

The American Theater Wing's 55th annual Tony Awards also honored "Proof" as the best play and Mary-Louise Parker, its star, for the best performance by a leading actress in a play.

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The Royal National Theatre of Great Britain's acclaimed revival of Rodgers and Hammerstein's "Carousel" will come from Broadway, where it won the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical, to the University of Iowa for four performances -- at 8 p.m.

The Public Policy for Global Issues class went to DC for about 10 days and it was probably the best interterm trip this year (or at least tied for first with all the other interterm trips).
The best part of the trip was the community-building aspect of it.
The other two shows were a musical, "Kiss Me Kate," the winner of the 2000 Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical, and a play, "Proof." Every member of the group was entertained by these shows but many people went to see more.
