BORN in Elsies River, Cape Town in 1952, Tony Cedras is a sought after session player who has toured the world as part of the Gracelands show band,and before that, as a member of Amandla cultural ensemble in exile.
Cedras became a key session player in the Cape jazz circuit, working with artists such as Jonathan Butler, tenor saxophonist Winston Mankunku Ngozi, altoist Robbie Jansen, flautist/guitarist Russel Herman, and bassist Basil Moses.
Tony Cedras is based in Brooklyn, New York, where he regularly performs with fellow ex-patriots such as bassist Bakithi Kumalo and saxophonist Morris Goldberg.

Cedras' became a key session player in the Cape jazz circuit, working with artists such as Jonathan Butler, tenor saxophonist Winston Mankunku Ngozi,altoist Robbie Jansen, flautist/guitarist Russel Herman, and bassist Basil Moses.
After touring inside South Africa, Cedras relocated to Gaberone, in the neighbouring state of Botswana in the early 1980's.
This musical toured extensively in Africa.While in Zimbabwe, Cedras was contacted with the request for him to join the Graceland tour band.

This traditional song, arranged by Moe G and myself, had to be played by the home boys, Bakhiti and Moe G and Tony Cedras who, from Cape Town, plays keyboards, accordion, banjo and lead vocals true to the essential spirit of the style.
Although Chris and Andy played separately, I tried to interweave the trumpet and sax as if they were together in the spirit of some classic jazz tracks of the late 50's.

New York-based 98.7 Kiss FM’s Lenny Green hosted the pan jazz concert, which was sponsored in part by WBGO Jazz 88.3 FM and WWRL1600 AM.
After the short intermission New York's own star pannist Garvin Blake was center stage, accompanied by his band which comprised accomplished musicians in their own right - including ace arranger and world-renowned keyboardist Frankie McIntosh and the respected and multi-talented Tony Cedras on guitar and accordion.
Blake decided on a traditionally-tinged repertoire which struck the right chords with the audience who sang right along; in fact Blake and company received a standing ovation.

Tears also has a Cape Town vibe and Tony provides that on the piano and accordion that he plays on the song.
