I Am Alive   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-03)
The single “I Am Alive” is overwrought synth pop, guitarist/vocalist Tony Fenelle (who with original keyboardist Billy Currie pretty much constitutes all of the reconstituted Ultravox) effecting a kind of Michael Hutchence/Midge Ure hybrid with his voice.
Still, it’s nice to hear the band warrant the warm touches of strings (especially on the extended version) and the stellar production normally associated with big acts like U2.
The single also includes “Systems of Love,” which would seem to nod back to their earlier work (surely you remember Systems of Romance?), including a little Vienna-era synth line from Currie and a colder delivery from Fenelle.
